Brand Launch – Segredo Aldeia Rum

Portugese for the Secret Village, this rum draws upon the legend of Levasseur, a French Pirate, who in 1721 off the coast of the Reunion Islands, plundered the largest treasure in history from the ship of the Bishop of Goa. Along with the jewels and other riches, were several barrels of rum, supposedly distilled in a “secret village”, located on the banks of the Mandovi river.

From Fullarton Distilleries in Goa, also producers of Pumori Gin and Woodburns whisky, comes another addition to the stable, and one that helps broaden out India’s nascent rum market, Segredo Aldeia.

The Story of the Secret Village

A few knots upstream along the banks of the Mandovi river lay this secret village or ‘Segredo Aldeia’, as it was called at the time. A haven for people with disreputable pasts, they spent their days making rum & nights revelling in it.

Our rum draws from this slice of Goan history in an attempt to recreate it.
