National Water Crisis
Of the many questions of national importance that one seeks answers on, I am qualified to deliver judgment only on whether whisky should be diluted with water or not. National importance why? Because there is a genuine North vs. Rest of India divide on the subject.
The question itself has been passed down generations without a satisfying answer. If you scan the ancient scriptures, the travelogues of yonder the articles from the past hidden beneath stories of warring glory and sacrifice, a careful eye will find the question, should whisky be diluted with water or not? The answer is right here, relax.
Let’s begin with the initial argument though. The guardians of the scotch soul, The Scotch Sena of the country, mostly our North Indian brothers, argue that most of whisky is water anyway – so why add more? Partially True! Moreover, the real whisky in the urn is usually only between 40- 45% – the rest is water, so , who needs more? Then there are the super masculine who form a sizeable number of the above group who believe real men have it straight off the bottle!
The answer is, at 45 % alcohol or thereabouts, the alcohol in the spirit will numb your taste-buds after a few sips. And with that will go all that real scotch stands for – taste, balance, perfection nuance and character. May as well chug turpentine
Also, the water is an oxidant, that reacts chemically with whisky particulate and releases aroma’s making the contents headier. Finally, the human body only process alcohol in the 25-30 % bracket – drink any higher proof and it’s sent off straight to the unmentionable parts of the anatomy.
So, my friends, getting a little water in your next glass of whisky is best advise. Yes, water & a cube or two of ice is all fine.
And for the super masculine, there is always deodorants, straight off the can, that they could do with!
