Clover Club – Homemade

Origins

When America entered the rapid economic growth in late 19th century, a group of people from Philadelphia (mostly newspaperman and lawyers) formed The Clover Club who met regularly at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel from the 1880’s to the 1920’s.. They chose the name because it was a symbol of good fortune and meant to live in an expression of prosperity and happiness.  Exactly when the drink was invented is still unknown but it showed up in print in 1901 by Michael J Kolache the head bartender of Waldorf Astoria.
