Red Wine Sangria

Origins

Sangria  originated in Spain and it means ‘bleeding’ in Spanish. The drink gets its name from the red colour in the authentic Sangria recipe. 1964 is when Sangria was first tasted in New York’s World Fair, and history was made.

Ingredients
  • 750 ml Red Wine preferably Merlot
  • 90 ml Brandy
  • 60 ml Triple Sec
  • 45 ml Honey
  • Chopped Orange
  • Chopped Apple
  • Chopped Pineapple slice

Preparation
  1. Combine the fresh fruits, honey, brandy and orange liqueur together and let it marinate for about an hour. Now add this to a glass jar and add the wine. Cover and chill for 3-6 hrs. Serve in normal red wine glasses. Good for winter afternoon lunches!
