| What
is a Unit ? One
unit of alcohol is the alcohol you consume in any of the following measures based
on single person consumption : 1
30 ml peg measure of Indian whiskey, rum, brandy, gin or vodka at 42.8% abv (alcohol
by volume)
or 1
330 ml can (accurately 300 ml.) of beer at 4.4% abv
or 1
125 ml glass (accurately 110 ml.) of wine at 12.5% abv. For
safe drinking in the UK, The Portman Group recommends not more that 2 to 3 units
for a woman and not more than 3 to 4 units for a man - the formula they use is
2 f 3 m 4! * *
- There has been great debate among medical circles about this not being appropriate
for Asia due to research which indicates that Asians metabolise alcohol differently....more
slowly and therefore get drunk faster! |
