Hosted by Sofia Barrera and Mateo Leal Garza. A few things worth knowing: 30 of Mexico’s 32 states produce agave spirits. Tequila’s heritage runs older than Scotch. The plant is Maguey, not Agave. And the celebrity tequila boom? Most come from just two distilleries. 🌵
The flight — five states, six agaves, one Dasylirion:
🐎 Two Jalisco Blancos — Atanasio, then Arette Fuerte Artesanal (50.5%)
🌶️ Bacanora Blanco, Sonora — prohibited until 1992, now on its own DO
⏳ Clásica de la Sierra, Agave Maximiliana — 15–17 years to mature
🏜️ Sotol — plot twist: not agave at all, but a different genus from the high deserts
