Kuya? What's that
Allied Domecq has launched a new fusion rum called Kuya (we kid you not) in North America. Back home in India, mixologists are still regretting the sale of Malibu to Allied Domecq as it has disappeared off retail shelves and thrown many a cocktail menu into disarray. Kuya, while on the subject, combines imported rums, natural spices and citrus flavour.
Stoli to launch mineral water and RTD's
Stealing a cue from Indian liquor marketers, Stolichnaya is all set to launch a mineral water extension and a lemonade. On more alcoholic lines an RTD called Stoli Ice is also planned (name sound familiar?). Here at Tulleeho we feel a Stoli RTD would dilute the brand.
Bacardi launches diet Breezer
In the UK, Bacardi has just launched its second diet variant which will be in an orange and vanilla flavour to join its cousin the lemon variant. Considering the less than thrilling response which Kingfisher Diet got, there might not be that much of a market for that in India. On the other hand given Breezer's core market of women, you never know…
Cachaca receives official definition by the Brazil government
The Brazil government has put a spot of jaldi into it and taken a big stride towards getting cachaca even more recognition and more importantly some degree of legal protection. Now one wishes that the Goan feni producers would overcome their susegad and put some degree of pressure to get the same done for feni. The inside story is that most of the feni manufacturers are least bothered about the same.
Diageo launches luxury sales division
Diageo has set up a new unit in the UK called Reserve Brands Group to handle brands like Ciroc vodka, Tanqueray No. Ten gin, Gran Centenario Tequila, Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Johnnie Walker Gold Label.
Grey Goose and Belvedere dispute continues
The ongoing dispute in the super premium end of the vodka market continues with Grey Goose giving no signs of withdrawing their controversial ads which claim that it is "Rated the No. 1 Tasting Vodka in the World." For more on the dispute visit http://www.adage.com/news.cms?newsId=38647
Signature to launch new range of brand extensions
Mcdowell's Signature in addition to being behind a range of management oriented seminars is also in the process of launching a range of upmarket accessories for the upwardly mobile - golf accessories, etc.
Fleming apologises for liquor ad shoot
Stephen Fleming was a naughty boy shooting for a liquor brand (any guesses which one) at a site near Rajkot. Well we wouldn't expect Mr. F to know about India's liquor laws and the birthplace of Mr. Gandhi but perhaps the concerned ad agency should have known better?
Tastings
Tulleeho's roving mouth attended a Tourism Ireland do the other day and narrowly missed winning a bottle of Black Bush (we got a T-shirt instead). Personal exigencies prevented us from attending the Sula tasting for the Delhi Wine Society.
Tullee fact: John Walker got his blending start by mixing together of all things, teas.

Tull-ee-ho! : A combination of the old hunting cry Tally Ho! and the colloquial Hindi word "tullee" (used both as verb and noun, and signifying a state of inebriation).
